BOARD BRIEFS

AUGUST 5, 2002

 The Smithville I.S.D. Board of Trustees met in special session on Monday, August 5, 2002 beginning at 6:00 P.M.  Items discussed or acted on by members included the following:

 1.       Consolidation of Tax Collections with Bastrop County – The Board authorized a resolution naming Bastrop County as tax collector for Smithville ISD.

 2.       Review and Approval of the District Crisis Management Plan – Board policy CKC [Local] requires each school campus to have an effective emergency procedures plan that can be implemented on short notice and that will ensure the safety for students and school personnel.  The District has had a crisis management plan since 1991.  The plan is reviewed and approved annually.  After thorough review by the superintendent and Director of Special Programs, the District Crisis Management Plan for the 2002-2003 school year was presented to the Board.   The only changes to the document was the format, making it more user friendly, and names and telephone numbers in the resource section.  Peggy Walicek motioned to approve the revised district crisis management plan as presented.  Mike Wittrock seconded, and the motion carried 6-0.

 The Board entered executive session at 6:20 p.m. and returned at 7:54 p.m. with no official action taken.

 3b.       Employment of certified personnel – The Superintendent recommended the employment of the following personnel:

                  Lisa Willmon – Counselor at the Junior High
            Darlene Heckman – Teacher at the High School
            Rusty Allen – Teacher/Coach at the Junior High and High School
            Jennifer Lange – Teacher at the High School        
            Olivia Brown – Teacher at the High School
            Kerry Kernwein – Teacher/Coach at the High School
            Douglas Fonville – Teacher at the High School
            Michael Stone – Teacher/Coach at the High School

      Mike Wittrock made a motion to employ the above personnel for the 2002-2003 school year.  Linda Rooks seconded, and the motion carried 6-0.

 3a.      Resignations of certified personnel – The Superintendent advised the Board of the following resignations:

                  Sonny Garcia – Teacher/Coach at the Junior High and High School
            Glenda Wheaton – Special Education teacher in Life Skills

 4.      Adjournment – The Board adjourned its meeting at 7:58 p.m.
