SMITHVILLE I.S.D.

BOARD BRIEFS

FEBRUARY 23, 2004

The Smithville I.S.D. Board of Trustees met in special session on Monday, February 23, 2004 beginning at 5:30 P.M.  Items discussed or acted on by members included the following:

1.      Discussion with architect, civil engineer, excavation crew, Bastrop County official, and LCRA regarding the drainage on/around the new high school property – A special meeting was called to deal with concerns by landowners adjacent to the high school property regarding drainage issues.  At issue is whose responsibility, if any, it is to address the buildup of floodwaters on properties surrounding the new high school site.  The Superintendent of Smithville ISD invited representation from Pfluger Associates, architect of the high school, Denmon Engineering, who designed the retention pond and drainage structures on the new site, and officials from Bastrop County and LCRA.  All parties were represented, and addressed the Board and landowners.  After much discussion, the outcome of the meeting was an agreement by Bastrop County Commissioner Clara Beckett to conduct a survey of the property east of Jones Road to determine the possibility of encouraging the flow of water to proceed east toward Shipp’s Lake, thereby relieving the buildup of water on property east of Jones Road.

2.      Adjournment – At 7:21 p.m. Mike Wittrock moved to adjourn the board meeting.  With a second by Howard Burns, the motion carried 6-0.
