Scientist in Brown Primary
White lab coats, test tubes, beakers and petri
dishes were all apart of the Scientist in Brown Primary program
recently. As part of the Centipede project, scientist from MDAnderson
visited with the students to share information about their jobs. The
students rotated through four sessions to learn about a variety of
science topics. Regina Weeks detailed for the students the education
involved in becoming a scientist and what she does on her job at
MDAnderson in a session titled "My life as a scientist." In "Lab Rat
Safety" with Sharon Stockman, Brown Primary kids learned to stay away
from poisons and other procedures for lab safety. Former mayor, Renee
Blaschke, spoke about the importance of recycling to keep not only
Smithville but the earth clean in a session called "Recycling
Reasoning". Students got an eye opening experience with "Microscope
Madness" hosted by Megan Lowery. Looking through the microscopes,
students were able to see a fish eye, grasshopper wing and silk.
