WHAT ARE WE CURRENTLY DOING?

Listed below are the activities as they relate to the six areas in the framework of parental involvement.

SMITHVILLE JUNIOR HIGH

1.      (CM/L) Open House in the Fall and Spring

2.      (CM/L) Regular parent, teacher organizational meetings are established.

3.      (P/L) Title I Parent Compact meetings are conducted at the beginning of the school year.

4.      (CM) An award day ceremony is planned at the end of the school year.

5.      (CM) Newsletters are sent home with report cards each six weeks.

6.      (CM) Publish the "A" honor roll in the newspaper.

7.      (CM) Sports events and school events are published in the newspaper.

8.      (CM) Selected students’ work is published in the newspaper.

9.      (CM) Each teacher keeps a log of parent contacts.

10. (CM/L) A TAKS presentation for parents will be given in the spring of each year.

11. (P/L/D) Migrant parent meetings are held at Region XIII Service Center annually.

12. (CM) Gifted and Talented parent meetings are held at least once a year.

13. (CM) The school publishes a monthly newspaper "Paw Print" that is shared with parents.

14. (P/L/CM) Parent training is provided through the Bastrop Special Education Co-Op on an annual basis.

15. (D/L/CM) Parents are involved in educational decisions at ARD meetings for the special education student.

16. (CM/L)  The counselor contacts the parents of at risk students in the fall of each year to discuss personal graduation plans for the students.
