Student Led Pledge, Roll Call

Board Recognitions
Outstanding Students for the Fourth Six-Weeks
  • Junior High: Jasmin Huerta, an eighth grader, and Angel Noel Sierra, also an eighth grader, have been selected as outstanding students for the fourth six-weeks at Smithville Junior High. Jasmin is the daughter of Maria Guadalupe and Jose Huerta, and Angel is the son of Maria Jaimes.
  • High School: Emily Matura, a senior, and Juan Coreno, Jr., a sophomore. Emily is the daughter of Jennifer and Leonard Matura, and Juan is the son of Juan Coreno and Sara Borja.

 Character Education Student Speaker

  • Kaci Rosales, a third grade student in Ms. Bauh’s class at Smithville Elementary, on the word of the month for February, Justice.

Superintendent's Report

District News:

  • Smithville ISD Child Nutrition Department earned USDA’s award for going the extra mile in 2017 to provide nutritious and appealing summer meals. They are among an elite group of 111 award-winning sponsors nationwide.
  • Communications Department won 2 Gold Star Awards and 1 Silver Star Award at the Annual TSPRA Conference in the under 10,000 student category for the 2017 -2018 School Year.
    • Gold: Tiger Insider Newsletter (Summer 2018) and End of Year Breakfast Invitation (2018)
    • Silver: 2017 New Student Registration Poster

Brown Primary School

  • Brown Primary is being featured in a Principal’s Professional Development Video through Region 13 on the use data and PLC’s on the campus.

Smithville Elementary

  • Science Fair Results: 4 - 1st Place, 4 - 2nd Place, and 2 - 3rd Place Ribbons
  • Meteorologist visit from KEYE

Smithville Junior High

  • Student artists at Eco Fest 2019
  • Chamber Youth Volunteer Award - Shelbi Young
  • Destination Imagination Team place 3rd in the Fine Arts Challenge "Game On" with their story about "Snakes and Ladders". 

Smithville High School

  • 9 Skills USA advancing to State
  • 2 UIL CX Debate State Qualifiers
  • FFA: 2 students earned a Blue Ribbon at San Antonio Livestock Show Wildlife Feeder
  • 1 Team advanced to DECA ICDC (22 years in a row)
  • Band Results:
    • UIL Solo and Ensemble 69 1st division medals
      • 47 State UIL Qualifiers (19 of which qualified in 2 events)
  • Chamber Artist of the Year: SHS Marching Band
  • Basketball All District Honors:
    • Tigers: TBA
      • Lady Tigers: Undefeated District Champions - Area Qualifiers
        • Overall MVP & Offensive MVP
        • 3 athletes named to 1st Team All District
        • Coach of the Year: Jaimie Kadlecek

  • update on progress at JH Campus: drywall in classrooms, windows, masonry, roofing complete in gym, locker room areas 50% complete (interior progress is taking shape)

Action Items

1. Consider Action to Accept TxDOT Request to Change Entryway at New Construction Site or Authorize Superintendent to Negotiate a Bid for a South Entrance with Drymalla Construction
  • add driveway across from 535, TxDOT will add temporary 4 way light and establish a turn lane) (Board Approved)
2. Consideration and Possible Action on a Proposed Construction Manager At-Risk
Contract for Bond Renovations

3. Consider Action to Authorize Expenditure to Place a Storage Building on the New
Construction Site
  • Addition of a storage building on the southeast corner of the visitor side for band, athletic, and maintenance equipment (Board Approved)
4. Consider Approval of Security Hardware Changes
  • The additional cost includes hardware for the doors and entryways in the new junior high. This clarification would allow the hardware to interact with the fire alarm system that is being installed in the new junior high. (Board Approved)
5. Review and Approve Board Policy Update 112 including affected policies (see
