TEA Accountability Ratings Released

August 26, 2019

Dear SISD Parents/Guardians,

Smithville ISD has received its state accountability rating from the Texas Education Agency, and we are pleased to announce that Smithville ISD has earned a B rating for 2019! At the district level, the overall letter grade is assigned based on the performance of all campuses combined. Smithville ISD’s score of 80 is an improvement from a 71 the previous year. The improvement indicates that our teachers, staff and students are working together to obtain academic excellence.

For the first year, all of the campuses were officially awarded a letter grade under the state’s new accountability system with Smithville High School receiving a B, Smithville Junior High receiving a C, and Smithville Elementary receiving a D. Smithville Junior High received a distinction in English Language Arts/Reading based on the performance and improvement of students in ELAR.

Accountability ratings are based on three separate domains: Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps. According to the 2019 Accountability Summary issued to SISD, the district earned the following scores:

Student Achievement (Domain 1) = 81
Student Progress (Domain 2) = 81
Closing the Gaps (Domain 3) = 77

We understand the importance of assessments and accountability in the educational process. Administrators and teachers will continue to focus on academic growth based on the individual needs of students. With that in mind, it is important that we not forget that student success must not be determined solely by state testing. Smithville ISD will continue to provide meaningful learning opportunities for our students.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Burns
Superintendent
Smithville ISD
