Subject: Parent and Faculty Input: Qualities and Characteristics of a High School Principal
Mr. Kenneth Parker has retired after 33 years in education. His last day was January 31st. He has done an excellent job leading the Smithville High School campus and we wish him well as he pursues other endeavors. Mr. Jimmy Trousdale, an experienced and veteran educator, will serve as interim principal for the remainder of the 2017–2018 school year.
Finding and hiring a strong, professional, and excellent instructional leader for the high school will be a big responsibility and serious task. I am asking for your input as to the qualities and characteristics that you would like to have in our next instructional leader and principal on the high school campus.
We have begun advertising for the position and will close the applications on March 15, 2018. We will summarize the results of this survey and place the summary on the district’s website as well as make a copy available at the Administration Building. I would like to conduct the interviews the week of March 26-29. This is a challenging schedule. I hope to have the next Smithville High School principal recommended to the Board of Trustees by the April 16, 2018 regular school board meeting.
Please list up to five qualities you would like to have in a principal below and on the back of this memo. Your input will be combined to one list to use as a guidepost for the interview and selection process. Please turn the completed survey in to the Superintendent’s office at 901 N.E. Sixth Street by Friday, March 2nd. You can also complete the survey on the district’s website at www.smithvilleisd.org. Follow the links identified as High School Principal Survey.
Thank you for your valuable input.
