Smithville ISD Announces New SHS Principal
(April 16, 2018 8:45pm) Smithville ISD is pleased to announce that after an extensive application process, Mr. Paul Smith has been selected as the new principal of Smithville High School effective June 4, 2018.
Mrs. Cheryl Burns, Superintendent of Smithville ISD, stated, “I am excited to have Mr. Smith as our high school principal. Mr. Smith is committed to student success, understands how to support teachers and their work, and eager to lead a positive campus community.”
Mr. Smith came to Smithville High School in the spring of 2017 from McDade ISD where he was the 7-12 Principal. Prior to McDade, Mr. Smith was the Florence High School Athletic Director, and has also worked in Round Rock ISD, Manor ISD, and Pflugerville ISD. Most recently Mr. Smith has been serving as the Smithville High School Assistant Principal where he has shown himself to be a patient and consistent leader who has high expectation for all. Mr. Smith is committed to being responsive to parents and supportive of campus staff while keeping the focus on student success.
As a native of Texas, Mr. Smith began his teaching career in Colorado before returning to Texas where he has remained for 17 years. Paul received his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science with a Minor in History from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado and his Masters of Science in Sport Administration from United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama. Mr. Smith holds certification in Social Studies Composite, Business, Technology, PE/Health, and Texas Principal.
When asked about how he felt about his new role, Mr. Smith stated, “I am excited for the opportunity to serve Smithville ISD and Smithville High School. I want to thank the school board and Ms. Burns for this opportunity. I want to also thank the teachers and staff for all of the positive comments and support.”
