Wellness!!
As the Child Nutrition Department, we are part of the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC). Our part in the SHAC organization is to provide healthy and nutritious meals for the students of SISD. With healthy meals at school, we can encourage the start of a healthy life. We don't only provide meals for your children, we also help organize activities throughout the year. Some of our activities include:

  • Fuel up to play 60
  • Farm Fresh Program
  • School Garden Program

Fuel up to play 60 - This program was put together by the NFL and the National Dairy Council. the purpose of Fuel up to play 60 is to provide healthy snacks and encourage kids to eat them. Another part of this program is to sway the idea to have at least an hour (60 minutes) of physical activity every day.

We're helping your child grow up healthy by teaching
them to build a healthy plate!

With Choose my plate, we encourage your child to choose everything from the line to ensure a nutritious plate. Here are some easy tips to start a healthier life:
  • Make half of your plate fruit and vegetables
  • Make at least half your grains whole
  • Switch to skim or 1% milk
  • Vary your protein food choices
