Parents & Students –

Thank you for your patience and partnering with us as we all work together to educate our children. I know this can be frustrating. Our kids are home with us too, and we are all experiencing this new reality together. Please know that the teachers and staff at Smithville Junior High are working diligently to provide the best Distance Learning opportunities we can and to stay connected and available to our families.

Distance Learning:

  • Online – All Teacher virtual office hours, video meetings, and Google Classroom links are updated on the SJHS Teacher Contact Information & Virtual Hours form.
  • Paper-based – On Thursday 4/30, packets will be mailed out to all families who have indicated they prefer paper. This packet will include all lessons for the month of May.

Grades & Assignments:

  • Progress Reports were mailed home on Thursday 4/23
  • Assignment can be turned in through Google Classroom or by taking pictures of the work and submitting it via email or Remind.
  • Paper packets can be turned in to the Return Boxes by the school’s front doors on Mondays from 9am-8pm. However, submitting pictures is the preferred & quicker way to turn in assignments.
  • Grading Policy – Please read the new Grading Policy to understand our Pass / Incomplete system for the last 9 weeks. Students who do not participate in Distance Learning will receive an Incomplete and their promotion status will be reviewed by a Grade Placement Committee.

Student Belongings:

  • We will be cleaning out lockers and bagging up student belongings. Then families will be able to come to the campus to pick up the bags.
  • May 11th – Curbside Pick Up! – Pick up student belongings & drop off library books, athletics gear, etc.

I know you have many other questions; we are here to help! Please email either administrator Chris Kelly at ckelly@smithvilleisd.org or Amanda Gommert at agommert@smithvilleisd.org and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.

We miss our students, and we’re so disappointed not to be able to finish the school year with them.

On Monday, May 11th from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm Smithville Junior High asks that you return/drop-off any SJHS items you need to return (athletic clothes, calculators, library books, etc) and pick up your items from your school locker and athletic locker.

Here are the directions for the event :
-Follow regular pickup route
-Stop in front of the junior high
-Stay in your car.
-Have your student(s) first and last name written on a piece of paper and make it visible to staff out front.
-Staff member(s) will bring out your child's belongings from their school locker and athletic locker
-A staff member will put items in your trunk/truck bed, or back seat if those are not an option.

As you drive off, you will notice that there are several labeled bins by the stop sign.
Drop off any school-owned items in the correct bin.

Please wait for the people in the vehicle in front of you to get back in their vehicle before you approach the bins.

*Chromebooks will be collected on June 3rd*

We are missing our students and hope you are all healthy and safe!
