Smithville ISD

Tigers Intentionally Growing Excellence Recognition

Smithville ISD is excited to continue the Tigers Intentionally Growing Excellence Recognition awards for the 2019-2020 school year.

Building on the 2018-2019 district theme of Service to Others, The TIGER award is designed to recognize staff who demonstrate they are ‘serving others’ in their field.  Employees who are recognized are those who go above and beyond the required actions of their assignment with the district.

All Smithville ISD employees may submit nominations for consideration of the TIGER award every nine weeks.

Please note: Nominees will remain active so nominating a particular employee twice throughout the year is not necessary.

2nd Nine Weeks TIGER Award Recipients
TIGER Award Recipient

Rachel Hurst
Brown Primary Teacher

Rachel always jumps in to volunteer at Brown Primary. On top of being a great classroom teacher, she serves on the District Site-Based Committee and is Vice President of the Brown Primary Booster Club. Rachel has a heart for kids. She works hard each day to meet their needs. She is always looking for ways to improve her skills so that she can better serve the littles of BP. Rachel is a valuable member of the Brown Primary staff and truly deserves to be recognized for her hard work and contributions.

TIGER Award Recipient

Cory Williams
Smithville Elementary Counselor

Cory embraces every child that she comes in contact with; not just the usual physical hugs, but engaging with them conversationally and showing them caring and love, getting involved in their everyday lives and what is going on with them both at home, as well as at school. And, it is not just the littles that she shows this deep interest in; but peers alike feel the effort and earnestness she puts forth in showing genuine concern for we adults, as well. She has initiated a new program on our campus to allow teachers to build up others with sweet compliments from week to week--allowing them to feel that their "going the extra mile" really did get noticed!!!

TIGER Award Recipient
Kim Hendrix
Smithville Junior High Nurse Assistant

Kim is a very compassionate school nurse assistant. She takes her time with each student and listens to what they have to say. I have seen her accept the challenges that come along with her job with grace and courage. Her eagerness to learn, acceptance to change, and willingness to push through each situation does not go unnoticed. I am proud to call her a team member of the SISD health team and a valued employee.

TIGER Award Recipient
Jennifer Edwards
Smithville High School Teacher

A great teacher with wonderful classroom management that cares about her students and teaching. Mrs. Edwards is a teacher who is dedicated to teaching students valuable lessons that are curriculum-based and non-curriculum based. I have never NOT seen Mrs. Edwards NOT smiling. She always has a cheerful disposition and it reflects in her students’ performance.

TIGER Award Recipient

Jayne Narro
SISD Transportation Department

Jayne comes in extra early and starts all the buses and vans for drivers on cold mornings to allow for the vehicles to warm up and be ready to roll when the drivers get to work. This is very appreciated. It is so nice to have a warm bus with defrosted windows and mirrors on a cold morning.

Jayne is first to volunteer to help with trips, late runs for absent drivers, mid-day routes, and anything that needs to be done at the bus lot. She cleans the bus shed and straightens the driver boxes. She communicates with Transportation staff about vehicles that are in need of repair for whatever reason, assists when needed by looking for lost items, and so much more.

Ms. CG, as she is called, is compassionate about her work. She always has the kids engaged when I go by her room or interrupt lessons. She cares about each one of her students and makes sure to conference with other teachers/staff when it comes to their academic performance or health and well being. She is always smiling and has an awesome attitude with all. It's something to look forward to when you come to work each day.

Sophie Weinheimer

Sophie Weinheimer
Director of Nurses and Health Services
Smithville ISD

Sophie has always been a guiding light and wealth of knowledge through my years here at SISD. I love to learn from her because she has a way to teach you without you feeling stupid. She always treats her students with compassion and healing hands and it is always just what they need. She is the listening ear for some, the healing hands, the educator about your health, or the stern nurse telling you it's going to be okay. She knows what to be in each situation and is able to adapt to each personality and what they need. I hope to one day become the strong and compassionate nurse and woman that she is.
