SISD Formal Complaint Process
Smithville ISD encourages individuals to discuss their concerns and complaints through informal conferences with the appropriate school or district administrator. Concerns should be expressed as soon as possible to allow early resolution at the lowest possible administrative level.
If an informal conference regarding a complaint fails to reach a satisfactory outcome, the concerned individual may initiate the formal grievance process as described below by timely filing a written grievance form within the established timeline. Grievance forms may be submitted by a students, parents, staff, or community member.
Formal complaint procedures are governed by Texas Education Code 26.011 and local School Board Policy. Below you will find links to board policy, however please note that due to recent Texas Legislative changes, these policies will be updated in Fall 2025 to reflect new law as defined in Senate Bill 12.

Even after initiating the formal grievance process, complainants are encouraged to seek informal resolution of their concerns. The formal complaint may be withdrawn at any time.
If a student, parent, or designee wishes to appeal the Level One Decision, they must fill out the Level II v Complaint Form within 10 days of decision.
Forms can be printed, filled out, and turned into the appropriate campus or district administrator, or emailed to grievance@smithvilleisd.org:
