Smithville Independent School District Announces Trademarking of Logos
At the December Board meeting Smithville Independent School District (SISD) announced the official trademarking of its beloved school seal, the Lady Tiger “LT” logo and the Tiger “T” logo. This significant milestone further reinforces the district’s commitment to protecting its unique identity and ensuring the legacy of its mascot, the Tiger, continues to inspire students, staff, alumni, and the entire Smithville community. Now the district is moving forward setting up licensing agreements with vendors interested in utilizing the brand.
The trademarks, which cover the distinctive design elements of these iconic symbols, will provide legal protection and safeguard the district's brand. The Tiger "T" logo and Lady Tiger "LT" logo are synonymous with school spirit, pride, and a sense of belonging. The Smithville ISD seal, with its rich history, has long been a symbol of academic excellence and community unity.
“We are excited to take this important step in securing the integrity of our district’s symbols,” said Cheryl Burns, Superintendent of Smithville ISD. “Our school seal and the Lady Tiger LT logos have been trademarked for some time, but we are happy to finally have the Tiger T as well. These logos have become powerful representations of the pride we have in our students and staff. By trademarking these logos, we can preserve their authenticity and continue to celebrate the spirit of Smithville ISD.”
This move will help protect against unauthorized use of the district’s visual identity, ensuring that only approved products, materials, and merchandise will bear these important symbols. It also opens up new opportunities for licensed partnerships and merchandise, creating an additional stream of revenue to support student programs and initiatives. The purpose of the trademarks is not to restrict the activities of local vendors. Rather, it is to maintain control over how our name and logos are used, ensuring that all products bearing our trademarks reflect the values and quality of the district.
Smithville ISD has always prided itself on fostering a strong sense of community, and these logos represent that unity. With the trademarks now officially in place, the district looks forward to further strengthening its connection to the community and building pride among current and future generations of Tigers.
