Smithville Independent School District is pleased to announce that our local Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) system has been fully approved by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The TIA system was created by the Texas Legislature as part of House Bill 3 to recruit, retain and recognize high-performing teachers by providing a pathway to earn six-figure salaries based on both excellence in the classroom and outstanding student outcomes.

Based upon 2024-25 school-year data, this first year of approval in Smithville ISD is expected to result in over 20 teachers earning a local designation of Recognized, Exemplary, or Master. Depending on the level of designation and campus, each annual teacher allotment in Smithville ISD is estimated to be between $5,800 and $23,000, based upon the current TIA Funding Map. Once earned, designations are added to teachers’ certification and are valid for a five year period, ensuring that they will continue to generate the allotment while continuing to teach in a Texas public school as a TIA-designated teacher.

Teachers will receive official notification of their designation in April, following a process of verification and confirmation by the Texas Education Agency.  You can learn more about the Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment at www.tiatexas.org and the Smithville ISD local designation system here: LINK
